Virtual Global Specialty Lens Symposium Brings Together 1,200 Eyecare Professionals 

DOYLESTOWN, PA – June 2022 – In the spirit of accessible education for eyecare professionals around the world, PentaVision, the publishing leader in ophthalmology, optometry and opticianry, recently held its inaugural virtual Global Specialty Lens Symposium, brought to you by Contact Lens Spectrum. With 1,200 registrants from 51 countries, this 3-day event focused on the successful management of ocular conditions using today’s specialty contact lenses.

What has historically taken place as an in-person event since 2002, this year’s virtual Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS) was added as a summer complement to the live Las Vegas meeting held each January. Even with the return of in-person conferences post-lockdown, the undeniable convenience and demand for digital programs now marks them as a staple in the realm of continuing education.

As reflected in the name of the conference, the GSLS saw a huge global presence and was a melting pot of perspectives featuring sessions that collaborated with international organizations like the British Contact Lens Association, Grupo Manejo de la Miopía LATAM and the Asia Optometric Congress. Highly acclaimed contact lens experts from each of these regions took to the podium, including Nick Howard, FBDO (Hons), Edgar Dávilla-García, OD and Charlie Ho, OD.

Other speakers and long-time partners of the GSLS brand included Lynette Johns, OD, Karen DeLoss, OD, Patrick Caroline and Eef van Der Worp, BOptom, PhD. Discussion topics throughout sessions were focused primarily around the history and current trends in scleral lenses and myopia control, and attendees remained engaged during the virtual event through various contests, an interactive event feed and in-platform messaging and meeting capabilities.

The virtual GSLS can be viewed on-demand beginning June 20th here. A tentative date of June 15-17 has been set for the 2023 virtual event, and the Las Vegas in-person meeting will be held January 18-21.
